Postgraduate Entry Requirements
We offer a wide range of unique postgraduate programmes, from Law to Economics, Development Studies to Translation – all taught from a global perspective. Here, we explain which criteria you’ll need to meet in order to be eligible to study a postgraduate degree at SOAS.
SOAS welcomes applications from those with an Upper Second Class degree (2:1) or above in their UK Bachelor’s degree. Applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree from a 211 or 985 university in China will be considered for entry if they have a minimum passing grade of 80% or GPA 3.3. Graduates from non-211 or 985 institutions can be considered on a case-by-case basis. Relevant work experience may also be considered.
English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English must show that their level of English is sufficient to follow an academic programme at SOAS. Our requirements currently include:
Academic 6.5 overall with 6.5 in writing and speaking, and 6.0 in reading and listening.
SOAS offers a range of pre-sessional or in-sessional courses for those who do not meet the exact English entry requirements, so that students have the opportunity to improve their language skills before beginning their academic study.
If you would like to improve your English language before studying for a degree, please browse our Foundation and English Language programmes page.
